In the run up to the 2012 Giro d'Italia, the Jaguar Academy of Sport is delighted to announce that current UCI Road World Champion Mark Cavendish MBE has joined the prestigious list of names as an Ambassador of the Jaguar Academy of Sport.

In 2011, the sprint cycling star enjoyed the greatest year any British cyclist has ever experienced; becoming the first British cyclist to win the sprinters' green jersey at the Tour de France before going on to claim the World Race title in Copenhagen, the first British male champion to do so in 46 years.

Jaguar Academy of Sport Ambassador, Mark Cavendish, commented: "I am really excited about being an Ambassador of the Jaguar Academy of Sport at a time when British sport is so huge! The work the Academy does to support and inspire the very best of British talent is fantastic. I can't wait to meet and work with the Rising Stars to help support them on their sporting journey."

Global Sponsorships Director, Geoff Cousins, commented: "We're thrilled to announce Mark Cavendish as an Ambassador for the Jaguar Academy of Sport. Mark is a remarkable world‑class cyclist ‑ his achievements to date make him a great role model and I have no doubt that he will be an inspiration to the newly announced 2012 Rising Stars."

The Jaguar Academy of Sport aims to recognise, celebrate and inspire the very best of British sporting talent and success. This is fulfilled through a Bursary Fund and a unique Mentoring and Education Programme (MEP) delivered by Kelly Holmes Education. The programme is an integral part of the Academy's success and provides the Rising Stars with invaluable non‑financial support to enhance their overall development and learning, helping them on their journey to fulfilling their sporting dreams. Rising Stars work with the Academy's Patrons and Ambassadors through tailored Workshops and Talent Days which are delivered by experts in their fields.
