As Fashion Week Came to a Close...
20 September 2010
New York City Fashion Week is all about new collections, style icons and fashion brands, but there is quite a lot of automotive action going on as well, writes Leah Watkins‑Hall, Corporate, Brand & Interactive Communications Manager, Jaguar Land Rover North America.
Despite bigger brands hitting the streets with fleets of transportation vehicles, Jaguar and Range Rover had a number of highly‑targeted fashion associations with key opinion leaders, designers, celebrities and media.
First, the all‑new Jaguar XJ luxury prowled New York's Fashions Night Out with rag & bone designers Marcus Wainwright and David Neville. Guided by a strong British tailoring influence, rag & bone produces classic yet modern sportswear for men and women. Representing industry‑bible Vogue in Jaguar's all‑new XJ was Vogue Editor‑at‑Large, Andre Leon Talley.
Range Rover made a major fashion statement with the launch of a partnership with luxurious gown/dress brand Marchesa, as it showed its Spring/Summer 2011 collection at New York Fashion Week. Range Rover sponsored the show by the luxury womenswear brand, designed and founded by British model and business leader Georgina Chapman, at the Chelsea Art Museum. One‑of‑a‑kind Marchesa‑branded Range Rovers chauffeured Georgina and Marchesa's VIP guests including model Selita Ebanks, reality star Kelly Osbourne, and actresses Kelly Brook, Jessica Szohr and Molly Sims to and from the event.
The new collection was breathtaking. More than 700 fashion industry insiders lined up to view the new collection of indulgent gowns and exquisitely detailed pantsuits. The show was truly signature Marchesa, timeless yet breakthrough. Entertainment industry leader Harvey Weinstein, Chapman’s husband, also turned out to be a Range Rover customer and model, Selita Ebanks said she was almost knocked off her feet by a “Marchesa Range Rover.” One fashion twitterer, @OnGlamFashion, tweeted a picture of the black Range Rover with the simple phrase: A Marchesa Range Rover….now that's our dream car!
This is only the beginning of a new partnership between Marchesa and Range Rover. We look forward to the next show in February with more to come from these two luxury powerhouses.
