CALLUM ON C-X16
21 September 2011
This is an important time for us here at Jaguar and a hugely exciting one. We're strengthening our position by remaining faithful to our design values while also being inspired to move forward. The C‑X16 concept gives us the opportunity to re‑confirm and evolve the Jaguar design direction and signals to the future of the brand, writes Ian Callum, Jaguar Design Director.
The C‑X16 concept expresses dynamism, vitality and youthful spirit. It has sensuous design, cat‑like agility and inspirational performance. The reaction since it's unveiling at the Frankfurt Motor Show has been incredible.
The C‑X16 delivers driver‑focused performance while inspiring an emotional connection and I want people to feel that and as soon as they lay eyes on it; they want to drive it.
The look of our newest concept is fresh, while also encompassing unmistakable design cues that remind us that this is a Jaguar; but reinterpreted in a modern way. The front grille is our new face and the tail‑lamps are also clearly of Jaguar origin.
The most important thing is that this car has its own defined character; strong attitude and a really powerful presence. This is exactly what you'd expect from a Jaguar.
The interior of the C‑X16 is simple yet seductive as it's lined in a bold red color. The interior is all about enveloping the driver in an architecture that's focused on control. It's about tactile technology and because it’s a Jaguar, the interior offers a sense of occasion combining premium materials with rich textures and understated elegance.
The C‑X16 is a car that possesses a real sense of latent power, an energy, a real dynamic tension. It’s a statement about the power of this brand to dramatically transform itself. This is a Jaguar at its purest.
