WHY I BOUGHT MY F-TYPE COUPE
03 June 2014
Miami‑based insurance adjusting firm owner Frank Lozano was one of the first to buy an F‑TYPE Convertible when it first became available in his market of South Florida. Now he’s traded it in for a new F‑TYPE Coupe. Here he explains why he made the switch and what draws him to Jaguar.
Tell us why you changed from the F‑TYPE Convertible to the Coupe?
I really loved the F‑TYPE Convertible. Who wouldn’t with the weather we have here in Miami? I drove it for a year and enjoyed the car immensely, but then I saw pictures of the new Coupe and really liked the lines. So a few weeks back I stopped by my local retailer, The Collection here in Miami, who had just received a Salsa Red Coupe with 20‑inch Tornado Gloss Black alloys and the black panoramic glass roof. I knew instantly that I had to have it as the F‑TYPE Coupe is really the hot car right now in the luxury sports car market
How are you enjoying it so far?
I bought the F‑TYPE S with the 380‑horsepower supercharged V6. I did consider getting the F‑TYPE R Coupe, but 550‑horsepower is way more than I need, especially here in South Florida with all its traffic. The V6 is plenty powerful for me. I love the acceleration, and the sound it makes is fantastic. Jaguar’s advertising talks about it being ‘Good To Be Bad,’ and I must say, I definitely feel bad in this car.
How often are you driving the Coupe?
I work mostly out of my home these days, so there’s no real commuting. Every drive I have in the Jaguar sports car is for fun. I’m mostly a cruiser, but our local Homestead‑Miami Speedway regularly holds events where owners can take their own cars for a session on the track. I’m planning to do one of those so I can see how the car really handles at top speeds.
What kind of reaction does the car get in Miami?
It’s interesting, with so many flashy cars on the streets, especially around South Beach, people don’t take much notice. But with my F‑TYPE Coupe, everybody seems to look. I’ve had people taking photos, giving me the thumbs up and when I park, there are always people around the car when I come back.
Was the F‑TYPE Convertible your first Jaguar car?
No, the first Jaguar car I owned was an XJL back in 2012. I was a BMW driver for a long time but switched when I saw the new XJ. The 7‑Series models were all starting to look the same and I wanted something a little more dramatic‑looking. I really enjoyed the XJ, but I tend not to keep my cars too long, so when the F‑TYPE came out, I traded the XJ for the 2014 F‑TYPE Convertible. I guess my wife Lisette and I had become Jaguar fans by then because at the same time we bought her a new XF 3.0.
What’s impressed you the most about your F‑TYPE Coupe?
I would have to say it’s the design of the car as I just love the way it looks. One of my neighbors in our condo complex owns a 1968 Jaguar XKE ‑ the E‑Type and it’s truly beautiful. Just looking at it, it’s easy to see how the new F‑TYPE Coupe has evolved from that car. I’m convinced one day it’ll be a classic like the XKE.
